My backpacker in Auckland: City Garden Lodge in Parnell. For a city hostel quite good! Easy access to get to the city centre by bus, not that big. Nice.

Other hostels in the wider Auckland area:

Orewa Beach: Pillows Travellers Lodge - really bad!!! Dirty and unpersonal - all in all: forget it (June 2003) better go to:

Hatfields Beach: Marco Polo Backpackers Inn - nice small hostel. Nothing special but friendly owners, clean.

Both hostels are about 30 mins north of Auckland.
